Pathways

CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION (CTE) PATHWAYS

CTE classes will help prepare you for a career.  Come of the classes will prepare you for a job directly after completion.  All of them put you on the pathway for careers with additional training.  They often give you the opportunity to earn certifications that can help you to get a job.  They will make you career and college-ready.  Each of the CTE classes have been approved by the Colorado Community College System and organized by Career Pathway.

Pathways options: Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources (AFNR) Pathway, Building Trades Pathway, Business Pathway, Computer Science Pathway, Health Science Pathway.
 
 
AFNR is a cluster of careers available with some similar requirements.  AFNR is the acronym for Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources.  If you were to look at many of the outdoor careers throughout the United States and locally, you would see that many of these careers fall into this category. 
 
  • Recreation Careers - rafting, fishing outfitting (summer, fall, and winter), ski patrol, ski resort groomer. 
  • Government (local, state, and federal) - NRCS, CPW, US Forest Service, County Road and Bridge, City Road and Bridge, CDOT, heavy equipment repair and maintenance, firefighting (structure and wildland), Emergency Management, Search and Rescue. 
  • Local - restaurant owner, worker, food processing, food truck, property maintenance, property management of various kinds, landscaping, irrigation, greenhouse construction, management, maintenance.

Are you interested in learning skills you can use in ANY job?  By taking classes in the Business Pathway, you can learn real-world skills that will help you succeed in your current or future job, including technical skills, soft skills, and make practical connections to Pagosa Springs employers and beyond.  You will learn general knowledge about the world of work with a focus on Hospitality and Tourism to help you succeed as an employee in our local businesses.

Would you like to get paid for taking care of others?  Health science workers promote health and wellness.  They diagnose and treat injuries and diseases.  As a physician, dentist, or nurse, you could work directly with patients.  You could also work in a laboratory to get information used in research or provide administrative support by keeping medical records.  Health science jobs are found at a variety of different sites.  For example, you could work in a hospital, office, clinic, or nursing home.  Or you could work on a cruise ship, at a sports arena, or within a patient's home.

The Transportation Pathway is designed to give students the knowledge they need to pursue a career in automotive service. A student who completes this pathway will be prepared for the next step in the process of becoming a certified auto repair technician.  The next step on the Transportation Pathway will include courses that expand on skills learned in previous levels, preparation for ASE certification exams, and Work-Based Learning.
