School Board Names Future Superintendent

The Archuleta School District Board of Education has named Dr. Kym LeBlanc-Esparza as the next superintendent starting July 1st, 2020.  Dr. LeBlanc-Esparza will succeed Superintendent Linda Reed, upon her retirement on June 30, 2020. Dr. LeBlanc-Esparza is currently the State Director for the Rocky Mountain Region AVID Center in Pueblo, CO.

The selection of Dr. LeBlanc-Esparza is the result of a national search led by consulting firm McPherson and Jacobson, LLC, followed by a district-wide, community-rich interview process that culminated in the ASD Board of Education choosing Dr. Kym LeBlanc-Esparza as their choice for Superintendent of Schools.

School Board President Brooks Lindner offered the following statement on behalf of the Board: The Archuleta School Board of Directors is grateful for the participation of all the different stakeholder groups in the superintendent interview process. The board leaned heavily on the stakeholder feedback in our deliberations on the superintendent candidates. It helped us reach consensus, and the board was thrilled to offer the job of superintendent to Kym LeBlanc-Esparza. The board and the stakeholder groups were very impressed with Ms. LeBlanc-Esparza. Her superintendent experience, instructional expertise, focus on building effective teams, advocacy for underprivileged students, and her desire to be back in the educational setting where she loves forming relationships all pointed to her being a great fit for ASD and a great fit for our community. We look forward to working with her.”

Dr. LeBlanc-Esparza brings a wealth of experience and inspiring leadership qualities developed from her 30 years of dedicated service to public education.  Aside from her current position, she has most recently served as Executive Director of Secondary Education/Career and Technical Education in Pueblo School District 60, and Superintendent of Newberg School District in Oregon for 6 years.

Dr. LeBlanc-Esparza is excited to join our community in her role as the new district superintendent.  She sees her role as superintendent as one of the greatest service opportunities within a community. “I am lead learner, team builder, vision keeper, community collaborator and contributor, instructional coach, student advocate, thoughtful decision maker and dedicated listener.” responded Dr. LeBlanc-Esparza when asked what the role of superintendent means to her.

As superintendent, Dr. LeBlanc-Esparza will bring her passion, energy and commitment to make a positive impact in the lives of our students, our district, and our community.
